International broadcasters join the home broadcasters in report from Dublin for Lisbon Treaty

Okay slightly unrelated, but my god didn’t Ireland get good coverage on Friday about the Lisbon Treaty…I found BBC News Channel (formerly BBC News24) gave it great coverage. Really solid, despite the odd little digg at the UK and history ie the Chancellor of the Exchequer in the old days ie apparently Gay Mitchell MEP.

I found the BBC coverage particularly thorough, lots of interviews by Jane Hill, sometimes News anchor. I’m one of many to complain about lack of coverage by the UK broadcasters on Ireland from time to time. Sky gave it some debate but funny considering it has more involvment that the BBC in Ireland, the BBC News coverage was far more thorough. So well done BBC News Channel and Jane.

Meanwhile RTE News by Bryan Dobson etc was extensive and good. And I see a News Channel is in its early stage. I think some link up with France 24 around Foreign News correspondents might be ideal for both. See: http://www.adammaguire.com/blog/2008/06/08/rte-to-launch-24-hour-online-mobile-accessible-news-channel-sbp-8th-june-2008/

Well done RTÉ again. Moving on many fronts. I suppose if they could be allowed adverts on the Diaspora channel they might have some additional revenue to put into this venture. News I am told is very expensive, particularly the foreign news element ie wages, travel numourous satellite uplinking of reports and studio uplink.
